Like anything that promises to be "kid safe" there's a good chance your definition of appropriate doesn't 100% line up with Google's. It's a free app and all ads are removed from the videos your child has access to, creating some relative safety for your child to explore YouTube. It's a separate app to watching videos that Google has approved as child-friendly. To address this, Google made YouTube Kids. Some adults don't want that, much less making it available to children. YouTube gives your kids unfiltered access to everything that exists on YouTube. The lock is instant, and can't be bypassed unless you either unlock it from your phone or enter a pin number in on the locked machine. If these time zones aren't specific enough, you can press a button and lock the device from your phone. You can even set specific times of the day when the tablet is locked completely, just in case someone has a habit of using their tech after bedtime. This is located on the main page of the Family Link app, and it gives you the ability to limit how many hours per day your child can use their device. Perhaps the most important feature is time controls. You can create a list of websites you don't want your children to access, set filters on the kinds of results Google Search is allowed to offer, set age limits on apps and movies your child can see from Google Play, and even enable location tracking. From here you have access to controls and filters you can adjust. Open the Family Link app, select the child whose settings you want to edit, and select Manage Settings at the top of the app. Download and purchase controls in Google PlayĪccessing these controls is easy.You will now be able to specify the hours and days of the week that your work profile will automatically remain active.Now that you have a device set up with their account, you can start using your phone or tablet to monitor activity and employ restrictions as you see fit.Tap Work Profile and toggle Set a schedule.Tap Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.When active, your device will automatically turn on and off your work profile for the time periods that you have specified. You can also set up scheduling for your work profile. Set up an automatic schedule for your work profile: When the tile is illuminated, your work profile is running. When the tile is dimmed, your work profile is paused. If you don't see the work tile, you can add it if your device supports it by tapping the edit icon at the bottom of the panel. You may need to swipe down again to see all your quick settings. Swipe down from the top of any screen and locate the work tile (briefcase icon).To pause your work profile from Quick Settings: When the switch is on, your work profile is running. When the switch is off, your work profile is paused. At the bottom of your screen, toggle the Work apps switch.Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to the top.To pause or turn on your work profile from the Work profile tab: Some of these steps might not be the same on every device. If your work profile stays paused longer than this limit, access to your personal apps and data may be suspended until you turn your work profile back on. Note: If your device is company-owned, your IT admin can set a limit for how long your work profile can be paused.
